I have done several parties lately, and haven't kept up with them very well on my blog. I did a couple of Holiday parties, a birthday party, and a Bar Mitzvah. It's been a great year for my business. I have only been in business for two years, and it is taking off very well. I am more than paying for my piano lessons, which was the original intent of the business.
Another Big Wedding
I worked at at great wedding Monday night, at a Chinese restaurant. I got married in a Chinese restaurant myself, so I already had a warm spot for the event. I did a lot of group shots, of 3, 4, and even 6 people on a page, as shown below. These six young people were all cousins.
Fun 2-night event at Fedora Restaurant
I had a really successful 2-night event at a NYC Restaurant called Fedora. The theme of the night(s) was the 1920's, so I drew the patrons in a little room set up like a speakeasy. Such a fun time!
Back to the Annual Harvest Festival
I volunteered again this year at the Harvest Festival in my neighborhood, for the 3rd year in a row. At this event there is a constant line, so Alice helps keep the line moving and puts the drawings in the plastic sheet. This way I am able to draw about 20 people an hour, a bit faster than usual. I see some of the same kids year after year.
My First Same-Sex Wedding!
I recently did caricatures at my first same-sex wedding, two charming ladies. Her mom even had me stay extra, for more money of course. I also worked at a corporate party for a consulting firm. It was a lot of fun, and everyone was so appreciative!
Ice Skaters and Mermen
I recently did caricatures for a Bar Mitzvah and for a company picnic. I love drawing the Bar Mitzvah age group. Adolescents are so appreciative, and make it so much fun. The company picnic was for a Queens hospital, and also a lot of fun. This guy wanted to be a merman, trident and all.
National Tequila Day!
Today I did a great event for Patron Tequila. It had a kind of Hollywood vibe to it, laid back but swank at the same time.
Another Wedding!
I had the pleasure of working at a wedding Saturday night, and it was so lovely. It was a family of Indian heritage, and everything about the night was intensely beautiful and colorful.
Busy, Busy, Busy!
Â
I took a week off to go to Myrtle Beach with the family, but since I got back I have been so busy! I had 3 caricature jobs last weekend, and I have two this coming weekend. It is truly a case of feast and famine. I did an event called KidVuz, a street fair, and a birthday event at a theater, www.hbstudio.org. Here are a few images from the jobs I've done lately:
The New York Pet Expo!
I had a blast doing caricatures at the New York Pet Expo this weekend. I got much better at drawing dogs, and it was so much fun!
A Wedding and a Baby Shower on the same weekend
I had my first wedding on Friday night, and it went really well. The bride had 4 sisters, and they all looked alike to me! I kept drawing the same beautiful face over and over again. The next day I worked at a really fun baby shower. You can just see the mom-to-be in the background, wearing the teal dress.
Another great party, just the kind I like
I had a Confirmation/birthday/graduation party on Sunday, and the people were so great. There were a lot of teenagers, and they appreciated my caricatures so much. The whole family was fun, and in fact I drew them all on one poster board.
A Couple of Pro-Bono Events
I did two events this weekend as a benefit to my daughter's school. I donate my services to the school auction, and two different people happened to schedule their parties this same weekend.
Purim Party!
I did caricatures at a Purim party last night, and I had a lot of fun. The kids all dress up for this event, and they were really charming and well behaved.
Short and Sweet
I did a little one-hour birthday party yesterday, but I got a lot of drawings crammed into that little time frame. Here are a couple of examples:
Small and Intimate
I drew caricatures at a very small party of 4 people. It was a surprise for the birthday girl, who was turning 30. They were a wonderful group of people, and it gave me a chance to spend a little more time with the caricatures, including using color. I really had a great time, and they were thrilled with the outcome.
I worked at my swankest venue yet - the Park Lane Hotel, right on Central Park South
These three were my final customers of the night. The lady in the middle wasn't the only one I drew with a wine glass that night. It was a fun crowd.
Ping Pong Party!
I drew caricatures at a Ping Pong bar called Spin the other night. I had to draw on ping pong paddles! The paddles had a sandpaper-like surface, so that was a bit of a challenge.
